Is iOS 7 Adding These New Services?

Is the image-sharing website Flickr and video-sharing website Vimeo about to get a major boost from Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 7? According to an anonymous source via 9to5Mac, Apple’s latest version of its mobile operating system may include the integration of these two third-party social applications.

Integrating these services into iOS 7 will allow users to more easily share content through their iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices. If Flickr is integrated into iOS 7, users should be able to instantly access the service after initially setting up their account access through the operating system.  Although users can currently share their Flickr images by manually logging into the service through the Instagram app, this software integration will streamline the process.

The rumored inclusion of the video-sharing website Vimeo indicates that Apple may be seeking a replacement for Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) YouTube application. Apple removed its own YouTube app from iOS last year as part of an overall movement away from Google-owned services. Vimeo has already been integrated into Apple’s Mountain Lion Mac operating system.

Besides giving Apple users convenient access to Flickr and Vimeo, these photo and video-sharing services will likely receive a beneficial spillover effect from being integrated into iOS 7. According to 9to5Mac, Twitter saw a 25 percent jump in its number of monthly signups soon after it was integrated into iOS 5.

Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) acquired Flickr in 2005 and it is rumored that CEO Marissa Mayer may have spearheaded the effort to integrate the photo-sharing service into Apple’s latest iteration of iOS. However, Apple is not revealing any definite iOS 7 changes until the Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, on June 10. For this reason, there is always the possibility that neither service will be included in the final version of iOS 7.
